North East Farm Buds Hub

North Eastern Minnesota is leading the way in sustainable agriculture right now. With every other region experiencing decline in small farming operations, the northeast is experiencing a rise.

To support this rise and to support the incredible community of farmers that are growing their operations we have assigned a specific regional hub director to spearhead Farm Buds trips and projects in this area.

We are hoping to scale this role to other regions around Minnesota so every small farmer in the state has ongoing community support within its region. Want to support this program’s growth?

The North East Region is Growing Fast.

Upcoming Trips

Farm Chores at the Sörestad Farm!

July 19th 9AM-2PM

We will be helping out the Sörestad Farm with basic farm chores like mulching, managing invasives, and weeding garden beds but will also have the opportunity to potentially do some produce harvesting and canning. This a great opportunity for folks who want to support local food systems and appreciate hands-on projects. This is family friendly event and lunch will be provided.

"Sörestad is Julie and Bill's farm in Clover Valley, between Duluth and Two Harbors, MN. We are passionate about growing excellent food for our community, and caring for the land which cares for us. We bought this old farmstead in 2020 and are restoring its soil, ecology, and structures so that it may produce abundantly, provide habitat for all sorts of creatures, and be a meeting place for neighbors and friends. And of course we grow everything without any chemicals!"

Madeline Island Manitou Makoons / Diaspora Gardens / Freak Farm

July 10th-12th

While many are familiar with Madeline Island as a tourist destination, not as many are familiar with the people who steward the land on the island. From the community gardens, to Indigenous corn and diversified crop operations to healing spaces for Black and Brown communities, there are many ways we show up to learn and support the community on the island.

While the last trip on the Ferry is 10pm, it's recommended that you get up there while it's still light on Friday.

This is a great trip for folks who want to learn about how communities build resilience in a tourist destination, and about Indigenous history on Mooningwanekaaning, (the Ojibwe name for the island). For folks who can make time for a longer trip.
